International Student Issues
As events throughout the world encourage increased global interdependence, increasing numbers of international students are attending Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. International students require a constellation of support services and information to be able to participate fully in higher education in Minnesota.
The student affairs division of the MnSCU system office provides technical assistance on best practices, policy and legal compliance for international students.
International Advisor's Listserv
The MnSCU system office maintains an international advisors listserv which is used to send out important system updates on international student-related matters. All staff, faculty and administrators with designated international student responsibilities at a MnSCU college or university should be members of this listserv. To have an email address added to the distribution list, contact Kelli Lyng at firstname.lastname@example.org
Insurance for International Students
Each college and university should adopt the following policy for international students:
"All international students and visiting scholars engaged in educational activities are required to purchase the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities international student accident and illness insurance plan, unless they can provide written verification that their government or sponsoring agency accepts full responsibility for any medical claims that might occur."
