ACT Validity Study Materials for ACPC Meeting
The three attached files provide information for our discussion on the ACT Validity Study at the April 16th ACPC meeting.
1. ACT Validity Study Report-2009-04-09.pdf - This file contains the ACT reports on their analysis of ACT scores and course grades.
2. ACT Interpretive Guide-2009-04-09.pdf - This file contains an ACT guide for interpreting the results of their analysis.
3. ACT Exemption Scores Study-1997.pdf - This file contains the report on the 1997 system study regarding minimum ACT scores for exemption from Accuplacer testing.
Be aware that the ACT analysis is complex and several factors impact the results. As we begin to unpack the information, we will need to remind ourselves of the following points:
1. The purpose of the study is to consider ACT scores for a student to be EXEMPTED from taking the Accuplacer and placed into a college level course.
2. The students included in the analysis come from a SELECTIVE population - they were attending Minnesota state universities and were admitted on the basis of a ACT score and/or a high school rank.
At the April 16 meeting, we will take a first look at the findings and make a plan for how to proceed when we continue the work next fall.
Please enjoy this bedside reading material. Also, it would be greatly appreciated if you would make a set of these materials for yourself and bring them to the meeting on Thursday.
WARNING: these are very large files.
