The term "Corporate University" or "Corporate College" first began to surface in the business community in the mid-1980's and is now nearly 2,000-strong among U.S. companies alone. It's been described as creating within a company "a strategic umbrella for developing and educating employees, customers, and suppliers in order to meet an organization's business strategies…a way to systematize and streamline …learning and development efforts." From a MnSCU System Office perspective "Corporate University" signifies our efforts to respond in a coordinated way to the education and training needs of large organizations statewide, and increasingly within the context of workforce development. The goal is not to replicate programs and services already being provided by our colleges and universities to their local or regional partners, but to establish new, innovative partnerships that link our institutions and whole companies, agencies or industries. The Targeted Industry Partnership and the Minnesota Colleagues in Caring Collaborative are key examples of how such projects should work. Contact:
